Possible Reasons for a Broken Foot

Monday, 24 August 2020 00:00

There are twenty-six bones that each foot is composed of. A broken foot can occur when one or more of these bones are involved in a sudden fall, or it may occur as a result of a heavy object falling on part of the foot. Additionally, medical conditions that can include osteoporosis can weaken the bones, which can be a reason a broken foot may occur. The noticeable sign that you have broken your foot is often severe pain and discomfort at the time of the fracture. In severe cases, a popping sound may be heard, and the bone may protrude from the skin. After a proper diagnosis is performed, which generally involves having an X-ray taken, correct treatment can begin. A cast or a walking boot may be prescribed, and this is often worn for several weeks as the healing process occurs. If you have broken your foot, please speak with a podiatrist, who can determine what the best course of treatment is for you.

A broken foot requires immediate medical attention and treatment. If you need your feet checked, contact Dr. Sybil J. Fisher from Texas. Our doctor can provide the care you need to keep you pain-free and on your feet.

A broken foot is caused by one of the bones in the foot typically breaking when bended, crushed, or stretched beyond its natural capabilities. Usually the location of the fracture indicates how the break occurred, whether it was through an object, fall, or any other type of injury.

  • Numbness

Those that suspect they have a broken foot shoot seek urgent medical attention where a medical professional could diagnose the severity.

Treatment for broken bones varies depending on the cause, severity and location. Some will require the use of splints, casts or crutches while others could even involve surgery to repair the broken bones. Personal care includes the use of ice and keeping the foot stabilized and elevated.
